I ran my third stripping run of smoked barley. Looks like I need another batch to do the spirit run. Have to find more smoked barley.

Shaved down a new poplar bung for my barrel. The oak bung was pretty hammered.

Been working hard lately to finish filling a 15g toasted barrel with 85% corn/15% barley corn whiskey. Hoping to get the last 1.5 gallons I need from a spirit run today to close it up for a long rest. I ran 3 15g fermenters damned near 24x7 for the last month to get there. I have gotten pretty good with ground corn yield, but damn I’m ready to switch back over to rum and all barley whiskeys next month, which is going to feel like a walk in the park after cooking hundreds of lbs of corn.

I like that barrel rack. simple yet elegant. Just may have to do something similar for stacking 5 gallon barrels.

How did that go for you? I had difficulties with PH crash. Manageable, but not smooth. The end result was great though.

Stripped a mixed grain UJSSM and used the hot backset and hot water from the preheater to gelatinize the used grains and some new barley ready for a ferment using Angel's Starter of Liquor Making.

Howdy folks,

Getting back into the hobby and have a new rig. Also, moved to Asia and I am based in a country where distilling is a big no no.
So I have needed to be creative in finding ingredients and put together a still using tri clamp SS 2 inch parts, shotgun condenser, dephegmator, copper scrubbers, 38L pot.

Started her up about 2 weeks ago...just pot still runs to start collecting low wines. Did a cleaning run to get used to the still. Just running off gas burner now, but getting a new boiler with heater and will be trying out a PID I am building. Covid has necessitated some hobbies, we are still pretty locked down here.

Anyway, today was racking a cornflakes wash - Odins recipe and starting another one. 30L worth at about 1.075 SG and 500g of Cornflakes.

Sugar is cheap here, less than 70 cents a kilo right now.

Just pitched the yeast.

Have some cuts I took from the last pot still run, you defintely pick up the corn flavor. Using some American oak, medium char, a coffee bean, and will add a small amount of vanilla bean if the stuff ever arrives from the states. Madagascar vanilla is hard to find here and super expensive. Taking about a month so far just to get that shipment in.

Anyhow, cheers everyone. Good to be back on the forum and distilling again.

Yep, when I was distilling back in Dallas, my 2 go to washes were WPOSW and Rad's All Bran.

Just found that I can get wheat bran pretty cheap here. Everything takes research as it is called different things.

2 bucks a Kilo - I can probably find it cheaper so will be doing a Teddysads FFV wash next.

Cheers.

I've moved on to Teddysad myself. It is very fast, very trouble-free .... I'm going to do a spirit run shortly to turn it into a vodka (hopefully) but I am going to explore it as a base for my Gin next. The wheat bran seems to buffer the PH somewhat and gives the low wines a very faint pleasant aroma. ...Very Promising!
