Just Some Bits Of Copper, Not sure what they do...
15 pack beer box for size ref. This is a friction fit to 15.5 Gal keg using dough, which I believe you can see remnants of. The top section can be used by itself but not the bottom 'boiling ball' as I call it. The top section was shaped as a kind of homage to old timer shiners but it also serves a purpose.

Purdy copper stuff Jimmy but honestly that condenser is way too small to be used on a keg with rhe amount of gas one would use on a keg .
More worrying is the size of the condenser lynearm connection looks like it has barely 1/8” bore .
Looks too potentially a bomb

The condenser is 1/4" flex copper (wire wound, of course) inside 1/2". It's been happily working for several years and the keg has safety pressure relief port.Yummyrum wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 1:41 pm Purdy copper stuff Jimmy but honestly that condenser is way too small to be used on a keg with rhe amount of gas one would use on a keg .

this is a quote of mine from another thread...

I guess I should add that I could run it faster but that is just how I like it.

I've pondered a lot on the theory behind the design and about as simple as I can put it is this: it's a passive CM/VM design. If you see the, as pointed out by Yummyrum, the small exit orifice compared to the total surface area = "fairly high ratio" or FHR for short. As well, both column sections are packed with SS scrubbers and they are constructed of copper which is one of the best conductors of heat = "pretty good cooling" or PGC for short.
I'm currently working out in my head, some sort of air cooling that will go between the nipple on the top of the head and the liebig, just to reduce the amount of water used. I'm not going to go into much detail about it until it is finished because it is going to be really unique. I pretty much have the design worked out I just need a couple brass bits from homedepot and we just went into pretty serious lockdown so I'm not sure now lucrative a trip there will be... don't want to wait in line for 2 dollars worth of parts.

Anybody remember the old Welch's Grape Jelly commercials... Went to homedepot and risked it, weren't many people there after all. So I cut 16 pieces of 1/2" pipe, 1 7/8" long because they're roughly that length when cut and opened up. Annealed the pieces and used an old flathead hex bit, sharpened up to a very gradual taper to punch a hole in the fins to just under the OD of the copper flex pipe then used a reamer to adjust the hole size and soldered it up, pretty easy. The last time I ran it on a full 55 litre keg charge it used about 90 litres of water so we'll see what it does with this. I'm estimating it will knock down around 800 watts of power but not sure if it will achieve this on the front end or back end when it is hotter.

Mate you cant let condensate pool at the bottom of that ring
You will be finding out if that saftey valve works pretty quickly, not safe at all
Re-arrange it to only have a downwards path from where you start to knock heat out

Re: Just Some Bits Of Copper, Not sure what they do...
I had my reservations about the rise but went with this for the time being anyway, mostly because I didn't want to modify my liebig in any way. I'll likely bend it over and make the finned part spiral down around the upper part of the column. I ran it with some water in the boiler but without any cooling water running through the condenser... It would take a 30 foot tall column of water to make 15 PSI of pressure so I wasn't too concerned. It wasn't problematic as long as there was enough heat and steam velocity to push the little bit of condensate out but when running it low and slow to get rid of foreshots/heads I can see it being an issue. Today's project; build another liebig to work with the new mod after I reposition it.

Taking the plunge... Going to the LM side Muahahahahaha. Going to go medieval on water usage for closed loop cooling.
