So learning to run my Boka
i have a question.
Since foreshots and heads pretty much come out at set temperatures. Can we not hold at those temps while we clear those fractions?
then come to equilibrium and start taking off at high purity. i would think we should be able to hold needle valve wide open and collect everything under a given temp?
i assume this is being done just curious what peoples experience with it is
thanks

Re: reflux spirit run
Try it.
And tell us how it works!
Best of all, tell us how long your run takes....I’m curious what you learn.

Maka, the 'running by temperature' idea has been beaten to death here. The idea looks good on the surface, but distillation does not work that way, so when you try it the effects on still behaviour won't be what you think.

Even though Kiwistiller's method is really designed for pot stills, it is still the method that I use when running neutrals with my Bokakob.

You can't change the temperature the wash boils at but you can change the temperature of the vapour in the column. You can do this by running a coil or other cooling system at the base or mid column that is cooler than the vapour but above the vapour's boiling point. Do this gradually up the column and theoretically you should be able to just collect heads at the top of the column without refluxing there. All the refluxing should be achieved within the column by setting lower and lower temperatures towards the top until just under 78C.
I've been discussing this in another thread and in a few weeks I willI begin work on the next stage.
