Whoah. So that's what it was. It just tasted very Whiskey'ish, but with some very intriguing, undefinable twist. It was actually my introduction to whiskeys... the name sounded so ridiculous to the young buck I was back then, that I ordered it almost as a joke. And just like that, I realized whiskeys may be my thing. Rusty Nail – highly recommended.kiwi Bruce wrote:The Rusty Nail,
Ingredients:
1 1/2 ounces Scotch whisky or some good corn or UJSSM * well aged on oak.
1 ounce Drambuie
1 slice lemon
Drambuie...(thanks to Dnderhead from way back when)
Ingredients :
750 ml of your best Scotch whisky or some good corn or UJSSM * well aged on oak.
1 1/2 cups mild honey
2 teaspoons chopped dried angelica root
1/4 teaspoon fennel seed
1 slice lemon, zest of, 4 inches
Combine all ingredients in a tightly covered container.
Shake several times for the first 24 hours.
After 24 hours, remove lemon zest.
Let stand for 2 weeks in the fridge, shaking gently every other day.
Strain through a sieve to remove the angelica and fennel seeds.
Keep in the fridge for as long as you can (but you can start driving nails now!)...the longer you can keep it the better it will be, up to 6 months
Pour clear liquid into carafe for drinking enjoyment.
Cloudy dregs may be saved for cooking.

Una paloma: Sugar syrup, lime juice, stir. Add ice, ruby red grapefruit and a good slug of tequila. Stir again. Sprinkle some quality sea salt on top and go for it.
Spent some time driving around the States a couple of years back and if the evening was looking to last a while in any given bar I'd be asking the barman: 'You wouldn't happen to have any graperuit back there by any chance?'
The barmaid in the Saloon-Under-The-Hill in Natchez made una paloma large enough to float a small boat. Luckily our hotel was only a few hundred metres away. All uphill. Only took us an hour to walk back. 'Keep the river on our left and we can't go wrong, dear...'.

Here's one with that name...probably not exactly the same as the one you're familiar with, but heck...it sounds the same.Honest_Liberty wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 9:16 am Smoke and mirrors, from the Arvada tavern. ah, yeah, I started this but didn't like the production style so I checkout out some forums and recipes and didn't see anything that resembled what I had. The Tavern is a pretty fancy establishment (if its still in business)

Re: favorite mixed drink
I must be a very simple fellow. My favorite mixed drink is white SF/UJSSM/other mixed with 2 cubes of ice, in the summer. In the winter I prefer apple pie heated up. Strangely, cold apple pie just doesnt taste right to me.
Simple Lil' Pot Still, no temp guage, no carbon, no scrubbers, nuthin' fancy. Sometimes use a thumper, sometimes don't.

Re: favorite mixed drink
It can include anything you want to add. It's yours and you're drinking it. I've used vanilla and ot tastes kinda like apple pie ala mode. I'm not a big cinnamon fan, so I just swirl a cinnamon stick around in it for a little bit and only sometimes.Honest_Liberty wrote:Can apple pie include a vanilla bean or just cinnamon stick?

Re: favorite mixed drink
If I’m mixing something g it’s typically a sazerac or I call a Canadian old Manhattan. Basically a Manhattan with maple syrup added. I’ve been getting into smoking my cocktails as well, recently.

1 Glencarin glass
