After a year I'm finally going to complete my ccvm, ?

It's been about a year since I've started this project and I never got around to finishing the reflux column. This is a modular build with tri clamps and I have a question. For the ccvm column it is going to be 2 in by 40 in Long. What would be the advantages or disadvantages of cutting that column down to two 20 in sections? I guess the thing i want to find out is will the joint in the middle of the column affect how it operates in a negative way ? I'm running a half barrel keg and soon will be upgrading to a 5500 watt heating element.
