Here's my rig. Kegland pot still conversion kit on a 35L Digiboil. I added 2"x24" spool that's currently packed with 2 rolls of copper mesh. I pull about 1L/hr on a spirit run. Currently running an agave syrup/sugar wash & going for tequila.

I also have the reflux still which I was quite happy seeing it put out 95%.

Finally put together a short 24” vertical liebig for the 10l alembic. It knocks down water no prob @ 1k5W from the hot plate. Soaked it in backset for 24h so will do a sac run soon! Made 4g of shady’s sugar shine low wines for cleaning out the flux and have parts on order to fit a 3/4” riser instead of 1/2” to the onion but 1/2 works for now. I can run this one in the kitchen after work to cook up anywhere from a couple liters to 2.5g of macerate. Planning to macerate some grape skins and a little anise in brandy for a while and load some more skins into the botanical chamber once it’s cleaned out with hot ethanol to season it. I might plumb a reflux condenser for it (1” over 3/4 with some coooer mesh to help heat xfer in the RC) to be able to pack the botanical chamber with copper mesh and experiment with some limited small batch reflux “partial cleanup” scenarios.

Last run in the old form I made it 7 years ago. Parts to be repurposed in a new design after this run of DME wash. Recently got a 1500w hot plate and 7.5gal Anvil boiler and some tri-clamp ferrules on it with fittings to run it off the shower inside. Much better than sweating in the garage.

This is my 50L keg boiler with the pot still module attached. The pot still is the RC module from my CCVM reflux still turned upside down and mounted on the common 2"x3" reducer attached to the boiler port - that is, the reducer is used for both the reflux column and pot still riser. The PC is a Dimroth made from a 36" ss sanitary spool with a CSST cooling coil. Cooling hoses are reinforced silicone. Cooling water is fed from my well pressure tank. The boiler has a 1" bottom drain and a 1" fill port. It uses a 5500W electric heating element with a basic non-metered pot controlled controller. The controller has a 240V cooling fan and a dual pole on/off switch. I also recently purchased an inline GFCI that I will begin using with the next run.

It performs pretty well. The only downside is that on stripping runs, the Dimroth doesn't perform very well over about 4000W of power. I plan to build or buy a shotgun at some point in the future.

Here is my new set up. It’s stainless steel, from an old pool filter can. I have not tried it yet, I will be doing a vinegar run this weekend hopefully. It’s 25 gallons with a removable head. One question I wanted to ask is this..

I had my friend do the welding. He used TIG stainless welds, but the backsides of the welds, inside the tank, were unshielded and he thinks the chromium in the stainless welding was burned out. He said it might corrode because the chromium gives the stainless, the corrosion resistance.

Can’t se to post pictures, I will keep trying

Anyone have experience with this? Wondering if it will be okay to use and run? I hope so cause it’s costing me a fair bit for the work;-)

Meet Natasha

It took several months to assemble Natasha, had a back surgery that limited my mobility since May, but she’s now up and running. There is a 2” section 15” providing chilling via a double helix coil (1/4” tubing fed by a pond pump) circulating 12 gallon of water constantly.

Did her vinegar and waste mash runs yesterday. Today’s her first real cycle for drinkable alcohol. In yesterday’s cleaning mash run, the thermometers measured significant variations between top (at the 2” chiller ) and each stage down to top of cabinet. Each stage has a liquid collection that drains away product via ⅜” tubing. The top section allows liquid to be recycled through the lower section or pass direct for collection. It’s column is 1 ¼”.

The hot plate below now heats the Copper (16L) Pot on ¼ heat setting. There is about 1 ½” layer of pebbles in the bottom of the pot that act as a heat sink, and dampens the effect of the hot plate’s rheostat oscillations. Resulting Output was a pretty constant flow, and easily switched between the top and lower unit via the ⅛” micro (SS) valves. Running a bit hotter than I plan for production yesterday yielde 174p (87%) ABV.

I’m expecting to be drinking Vodka Tonight!

Here is my take on a 2" CCVM. She is in the naughty corner and this is her permanent position. There is a SS 1 800mm table to the right that is used as a workspace,needs a little cleaning. The point was that I did not want to pack or unpack, I wanted to be able to run the still at any point, immediately. I also wanted to be able to stop running without having to pack away. Mission accomplished.

The insulated portion of the column is 1 200mm and is insulated with Ceramic Fiber Cloth over which there is a 110mm PVC tube with stop ends to seal the Ceramic fibers in. The column is packed with 900mm of 6mm Raschig Rings and the balance is copper mesh.

The column is mounted on an as yet uninsulated 50l keg heated by a 3.5kw element and the 4kW variable voltage supply. There is a drain fitted to the bottom for easy draining and a 125mm Tri Clover for easy filling and cleaning.



A close up of the business end will show how I have taken the incoming and outgoing water supply to the opposite side of the Leibig in order to balance the load, it works well. The gate valve I can reach without standing on anything, im 6'2". The Liebig is 650mm long and 28/15mm. There will be a separate down tube to direct the distillate into the containers. On top you will see two brass plates connected with SS 8mm threaded rod. I have not finalised the design but pretty much know what I will be doing. There will be a pulley mounted to the top plate to allow me to raise and lower the RC. There will also be some form of indicator to allow me to dial in the same setting at will. I have not connected the RC water supply yet and will only do so after the design is final. The cooling water nipple for the RC is visible.



The total weight is 27.2kg and fully charged will be 72kg. So in time I will build a custom stand with heavy duty castors in case the still needs to be moved when full. Bar the lifting mechanism for the RC and the insulation of the Keg I am pretty much done.

Got this milehi rig a few months ago. 4” Copper tower, perf plated. 26 gallon boiler. I’ve been piecing together equipment to run it. Picked up the last of my brass fittings today. Got the 3/8” needle valve coming in tomorrow. My biggest hurdle is CM. I think it’s only appropriate the first run be a Rye…hmmm.

Didnt you start out this year with an 8 gallon "dual purpose" unit? Thats a fine leap in productivity right there. Nice rig brother.
If I were to go to a 26 gallon boiler, it'd be jacketed with an agitator. Maybe in a couple of years when I retire and get settled in someplace new.

love it Scott!! lost it when i saw the paint can & "non-metal" funnel, had a similar setup. had to use my food-grade (for what that's worth ;->) scoop one as a backstop for when she started spittin one run [just as a emer/temp measure mid-way thru a run, so don't beat me up TOO bad ;->]. set it in there so if it's a normal flow it just falls into the metal funnel:
