what you think about this still design?
homedstillers in Lebanon and other middle east countries use this design for distilling Arak (brandy that macerated with green anise seed)
the Chinese also use a similar design for distilling Baiju (rice vodka).
what do u think about its efficiency? i kinda want to build a mini still like this for experimenting
Re: what you think about this still design?
Wow some of those stills look reeeally dodgy (I mean that top one looks like an old rusty oil barrel - WTF ). Basically a pot still with the product condenser on top of the riser. It obviously works for those people but not a design I would use.
Re: what you think about this still design?
You can buy them new. Look up alquitar still

Thanks Chris , never knew what their name was .
Just did a google and there certainly are some purdy copper ones for sale .
I’d doubt they will make anything that a big standard Pot still can’t , though .
My recommended goto .

Yep they have been around awhile. Wouldn’t be my choice for a still design although it will work it probably isn’t the most efficient design.

It will work, but I don't see any advantage over a normal pot still with liebig , the one you want to build is probably harder to build, than a normal pot.
Re: what you think about this still design?
thanks Chris. turns out this type of still is mainly use for Essential Oil

Are you saying that the ones you pictured above are mainly used for essential oil … or are suggesting that the ones Chris was talking about are used for oils .
If thats the case , I’d say no . Thats just a marketing thing to cover their arses .
Of coarse they can be used for making alcohol .
My recommended goto .

By the look of whats going on in those photos , Id think the people running those stills would need a drink more than they would need essential oils.
