Roger from Methven, Canterbury, New Zealand
Hi, I'm Roger, recently moved to Methven in mid Canterbury NZ.
Purchased a t500 a few weeks ago, have fermented and distilled one brew.
Got 10.7 litres of 40% from 8kg sugar, 20L water and Turbo8 from StillSpirits.
Have made pink gin, violet gin, blue jewel gin and ouzo, still have 4 litres left.
2 more brews fermenting now.
Loving the learning curve and all the advice from others online.
Interested in catching up with other distillers in Methven

We forgive you.
But more importantly, as someone who bought a T500 a bit over 12 months ago with all the still spirits add-ons, read the tried and true recipes and forget the turbo yeast stuff, waste of time, and you will learn a whole lot more from these crusty old farts on this website than you will learn from anywhere else in the world IMO!
Just sayin......
Taking a break while I get a new still completed....

Re: Roger from Methven, Canterbury, New Zealand
kiaora from the top.
10.7 @40 from 20lt would have your wash at~21% which (is entirely doable from turbo but) will leave you will all kinds of off-flavour.
I think the general consensus here is 16% tops, and most "tried and true" are 4-8% in the wash.
Smashing for high ABV is false economy... quality over quantity and all that.

Hi Yummyrum, I have only just moved to Methven from Dunedin in last 6 months so no impact on me.
The Christchurch quakes were 10 years ago and nothing significant since.
The city is recovering and is a great place to live with good house prices and great infrastructure. There are still a lot of 'car parks', whole city blocks levelled that have not yet been developed, but lots of progress made and a great place to visit.

Welcome Rodger.
Not so much knowledge, but, yep. Crusty old fart.
We climbed the tower in the cathedral a few years before the earthquake destroyed it.
