I'm about at this point myself on a new copper still. I was thinking do 50% vinegar run, water run, then sac run. Should that be sufficient, or should I manually scrub it all with soap first? I like the idea of storing the waste in an old gas can.
First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

You should wash all new components, assemble the still, vinegar/water run with cooling water off, then after a good steam through the condenser, turn the cooling water on and take note of the available knock-down power of the condenser. Then, once you've acquainted yourself with the operation of your new equipment and assured yourself you have no vapor leaks, its ready for a sacrificial alcohol run.
Fear and ridicule are the tactics of weak-minded cowards and tyrants who have no other leadership talent from which to draw in order to persuade.

I'm sitting on a couple gallons of fores & early heads and planning to use it for a cleaning run too. I keep a shaving bottle topped up in the bathroom too and throw in a little after shave or fragrance and use it for the close clean shave most mornings - fire starter... I'm not washing many windows though?

just like cayars & some of the others said... SW/BW. IMHO, anything else is a waste of time & mash. it's sacrificial, so why use anything else? key there is sacrificial, as others pointed out, meaning you toss it. ;-)
