Dead lizard in low wines
So I found a dead lizard in about 3 gallons my low wines. I searched the forum and it looks like this isn’t common. Do you all think that it will affect the taste? Is it safe? So many of those dang things - I don’t know how it got in.

At least it died happily. how long was it in there? if it hadn't gone putrid you should be fine your going to distill it again so that will kill anything.
Look on the bright side now you have a good name for your product.

Even if your low wines were at 20% abv that makes for a pretty sterile environment. See if you can spot the extra tastes from macerated lizard when you do the spirit run.

What sort of lizard ? Im told that some types add better flavour than others.
Re: Dead lizard in wash
Dang ya’ll reply fast! Low wines are in the mid 30s abv wise. I guess it should be pretty sterile. My dog always catches them and rolls on them once she’s done “playing” with them. I just hate that lizard smell, and was worried about salmonella.
I’ll redistill and see if that smell carries over - hoping not.
Saltbush - that had me laughing out loud
Type of lizard is just a run of the mill lizard. They’re everywhere in the sunshine state.

You’re right! Fixed title.
For real though - they are persistent. Last year I left one of those gallon soap jugs open and about a half dozen of them jumped in there and drowned.

Re: Dead lizard in low wines
This exact thing literally happened to me last week. I put 3 gallons of 100proof low wines with 3 gallons of fresh wash and let it sit for a few days. On the day of the spirit run I found the little green guy dead in the bottom of the bucket with a smile on his face.

Won't hurt anything, he will just add one more to the heads, and tails

The positive side is that you have learned to insert a cap in your wines .... In this case the typical response "tastes its taste" would be out of place .... ..
