I finally got my time to SHINE

So I’ve been out of work since September. I’ve worked since i was 15, it has been tough not having a stable career! For example; and this is no BS. I applied for over 86 jobs in the month of January I got one interview doing d2d sales. But it finally seems like I’m getting an opportunity to actually do something that I can put my full heart behind. I go this Thursday to a commercial distillery in NC. I was offered a position to be mentored by their lead chemist/head distiller.
I just really wanted to share this with you all; I’ve wanted to start a nano/micro distillery since that first run. I tell y’all right now, this is the most exciting news I’ve received in my life.

Well, working in a brewery or distillery is no “cake walk”. Don’t overlook the reason the “chemist/head distiller” hired you is to do the WORK he doesn’t want to do. Sure, you’ll learn a lot. And have the opportunity to “sample” the products. But, you’ll have the sweat to show for it, plus a paycheck, which is some consolation.

Cleaning out the fermenters and still are dirty and smelly. And very physical. The hours working will be long and hard. Again, keep in mind that your real compensation is the skills you’ve gained. And maybe your spouse won’t complain too much about how smelly your clothes are.

As a hobby, brewing and distilling is “fun”, because you can easily set it aside before “burnout”. When it’s your job, it’s more of a conviction. So, when you “look through the tunnel” just keep your eyes open “for the light”.

I used to volunteer at a brewery in college.
It's definitely real work.
Shoveling out mashtuns will make your back strong, that's for sure!
Good opportunity to get some experience on your resume though, and in an industry that seems to be growing.

I am 100% aware, but I to believe you can’t climb the proverbial ladder if you don’t start at the bottom rung..I worked in a pretty large specialty latex and acrylic plant; also for campbells in production so I’m totally aware of the stipulations that come along with companies that have a global presence.I’m just happy to be able work somewhere and with something that I have a passion to learn more about. Thank you for the pointers!! Imma keep the jar half full, in case I need a refill.
