Hi!
I don't want to start a war but.. what do you think about blending gin at 43% ABV(86 Proof) and storing it for 2 weeks in PET containers? I've read different posts here and most of them are subjective when defining if it's safe or not.
Can the flavor change? Is it really dangerous? Ethanol at 96% ABV is sold in plastic bottles.
Does anyone have the theoretical explanation of max ABV that can be stored in plastic?
Hope to not generate hate on glass/stainless fans haha.
Regards,
PET for storage gin at 43%ABV

No! *
Do you have the manufacturing specs for the PET bottles you plan to use? Do you have the testing schedule that they were subjected to? Does that schedule correspond to the usage that you have planned?
If you answer no to any one of those questions then you have your answer right there. Your booze. You want to drink plasticisers, feel free, just don't talk about it here! (It's actually in the damn rules!

C’mon man. Why would you even ask this question?
Seriously, any search within this forum for plastic being used with ethanol and it becomes quite clear what the stance is here.
This isn’t a Ford vs. Chevy kind of subject. It’s about safety.
Most members, by default, will have to come to the conclusion that either you’re looking for punishment, your ignorant, or you’re a troll…
The answer is no. Don’t use it with your ethanol in any way shape or form.
Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

But you are willing to….
This site has a clear rule on plastics.

I feel the site rules say it very clearly and there is nothing to discuss.

Popeye I suggest that you study the forum rules closely before posting again. app.php/rules
Pay particular attention to this one.
" Safety first and foremost! These forums take a very strong negative view on the use of plastics and synthetics in distilling. It simply is not safe to use these during any part of the distillation process with the exception of HPDE buckets which are acceptable for fermentation. There simply are too many types of plastics and a lack of reliable information for us to reliably advocate their use anywhere in the distillation apparatus. Also, from past posting history, this topic seems to quickly boil down into an almost religious flame war. Thus we simply will not put up with it, and posts about any form of plastic use will be edited, deleted or locked. "
