Downtime coming up soon

Post by Uncle Jesse »

I'm going to be working on the server-side software. This means the site will be sporadic for a while.

I'll post here when I'm done.

Well, I upgraded PHP from 5.6 to 7.3 and things seem to be working still.

Things are a bit more sane in the admin control panel. I hope this improves other things as well, though I can't predict it too easily.

The site is updated (and downgraded, them updated, then downgraded, lol). Certainly not without a bit of pain, but we should have the version we will be running for quite a while.

That being the case, there are a few things which may not be functioning correctly. IF you spot things which were working prior to this upgrade, but now are not working, PLEASE post us a message about them. Also, post a URL link if possible, and explain the problem.

Items I know may still be 'different

1. The links on the menu need to be added in. The parent site link is now on the left side, but things like google search (and other custom menu options still need added back in).

2. tables within posts are not working. Also, some other bbcode may or may not be working. If you know of any that DID work, and now do not, speak up.

3. there are a few admin/moderation task items which may not be fully working correctly.

Thanks, Husker! DONATE button still missing.

...and is it possible to add a "LIKE" button of sorts?

Like would be a new 'feature' (adding a module for like type behavior). The donation button is something UJ added, which I am not overly fond of. I would rather just modify the source which generates the footer of every page, and add it there. But UJ added a 'paypal mod', and you get what you get.. I certainly see it, but I am using a full browser. It may simply not show up on phones or tablets.

But since the donation is showing up (at least in many cases), it is not on my top priority. I would like to fix things which were working, but now are not working.

Several times recently this site has seemingly been hijacked by another. Several times now I've been redirected to ---http://www.bigshed.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi
and greeted with the title “What A Dump”.

This happens after I initially type in “HomeDistiller.org” anonymously, from a different browser than the one I would normally have used to log in and comment with.

- The second typed in attempts to reach HD, have all worked. Neither am I misspelling the address.
- I am uncertain what is causing this behavior. Don't expect anyone to “fix” anything – just letting you know.

I host bigshed for a friend of mine. This shouldn't happen, assuming my settings on the server are correct.

Please report this if/when it happens.

Just happened to me - The URL was modfied from:

Code: Select all

https://homedistiller.org/forum/search.php?search_id=active_topics
to:

Code: Select all

https://homedistiller.org/bigshed/forum/search.php?search_id=active_topics
The page did not load & gave this error:

Please be aware that coming soon there will be periodic times this site will be down. We're trying to get to the bottom of all the issues we've been experiencing, and to update we'll need to take it down.

Please be patient and hit a little of your reserves. We will let you know as soon as our attempts are complete. Thanks for your patience these last few weeks.
