Curious, is that 1/2" ceramic aquarium rings for your 4"? I tried it in my 3" and it absolutely sucked. It was the worst packing I've ever tried. I figured it should be more appropriate for a 4" column.shadylane wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 5:14 pmLava rock, marbles, SS mesh and my favorite ceramic aquarium rings.Stonecutter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 4:57 pm
The law of diminishing returns, is it really worth the price compared to lava rock or marbles?
Too expensive to simply buy to test it out.
SPP and the other store-bought packings are more efficient per height.
But cost so much it's cheaper to just make your column taller.

Re: Random Packing For A 4" Column
Hey Larry
I start off running at 34 amps but will work up through the run to about 40 amps.
I am producing 8.75 liters or 2.3 gals of 95.1 to 95.4 % per hour
I would like to build a side column with pumped reflux from bottom of column two to the top of column one. I don't have the ceiling height to go any taller on the existing set up.
I was actually going to PM you to ask if you have done or sell the equipment for side column pumped reflux
Consider this the PM
Was also thinking maybe a side column could be your answer.

Here is the Aquacity I used and Siporax that Windy city used.
I think Siporax looks like it would work better.

Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

From memory the early T500's made by Still Spirits where using a similar thing years ago.....might be why they could pull 92%-93% with such a short column.
Aint that recipe the bee's knee's......if ya like real neutral ,neutral, its the one to use IMO.Windy City wrote: ↑Thu Sep 29, 2022 12:31 pm Just made a bunch of Shady’s Sugar Shine

Their 16x16mm Metal Pall Rings would be about right for a 4" column.

Heck ya. With 95% open space and those punch outs in the side, you could throw a lot of power at that without any worry of flooding. I’ll bet the minimum volume purchase would be too big for my needs. Larry, if you don’t mind sharing what you learn about the minimum purchase size and pricing, I’d appreciate it. For the right price, I’d ditch my rocks. Otis

Re: Random Packing For A 4" Column
Well I'm just researching solutions for a customer.
Typically I wouldn't get involved with column packing beyond actual plates.
If there was enough interest then perhaps it would be more doable?

Re: Random Packing For A 4" Column
If it works out I will be interested in enough to fill my 8 sections of 4" glass to replace my 6mm ceramic rings, they work fine but add a lot of weight to the column.
