Hi all,
Has anyone recently added any Linoleic acid to their wash/mash?
Seems like adding grape seed oil makes the little guys smile:)

try 1% rye flour as a nute...be careful it will overflow if you add too much.

olive oil, rapeseed, canola etc works as well. Can also help prevent a ferment from foaming up as much if you overfill the fermenter. Beer guys have been doing it forever, but they are restricted to a tiny amount (it effects head retention, which distillers actually don't want).

I didn’t know about the oil, thanks for the tip! I know rye flour is a kicker yeast food, it is one of the first common recommendations for a slow or unhealthy sourdough starter. It is crazy how quickly and efficiently it acts.

Following that link to Wikipedia makes me wonder why they didn't provide a better drawing for the linoleic molecule. I guess that straight line drawings of such molecules is acceptable.
But my impression is that the fatty acid chain itself is bent or curved in nature, because of it having multiple double bonds in "cis" configuration.
Such a fatty acid chain takes up more room in an "unsaturated" triglyceride, and helps determine the triglyceride's properties - the fat's melting point for instance.

As some good sources of linoleic acid includes Corn Oil, can we hope that mashing corn will bring some of linoleic acid naturally to the yeast?
