Grain Mills and grinders and?
Well I ordered a DY-368 grain mill from Amazon, waited 2 weeks for it, and what I got was a bait & switch. They sent me a DY-168.
This Dy-168 has only 2 rollers, the advertised DY-368 lists three.
I’ve been given the option to return it for a refund, by March. They refused to exchange this for a DY-368.
The question becomes, how good is the DY-168? Has anyone else got one of these?
The DY-368 is listed on Amazon for 3 separate venders, I could simply order another DY-368 frame one of the other venders, and return one, or both if both seller do the bait and switch. but I’m wondering if they all would ship the DY168 instead?
Anyone want offer any advice?

The real question is what other grains are you going to be mashing? If just barley, then either of the roller mills will work. If you're going to be grinding corn , rye or wheat, all of which are huskless, a mill or a grinder with plates will make the job easier. A motor isn't required, but sure is nice.

I just did 25lbs cracked corn. Sure made a difference running it 2 times through
I drink so much now,on the back of my license it's a list of organs I need.
Re: Grain Mills and grinders and?
A lot of beer has been made with a two roller mill. and a two roller is recommended for milling harder grain like whole corn. But if you paid for a three roller and got the two roller I would be pissed and return it. Then you can decided if you want to reorder a two roller or three.
I personally went with the two roller because I can run whole corn through it to crack it for chicken feed. Buy you might not have that issue.

I do everything on a 2 roller. I do have to double process corn though
:)

Got links ? A quick look on Amazon shows the description as ...
Package Content:
1 X Malt Mill
4 X Hoppers
1 X Gear Motor
2 X Rollers
Regardless of the number of rollers, the 368 doesn't get good reviews. Alignment between the motor and mill seems to be a problem with no keying for the lovejoy coupler on either shaft.

Re: Grain Mills and grinders and?
A roller mill is great for (malted barley) beers. It properly “crushes” the berries without destroying the husks. This makes lautering much easier. However, huskless grain berries may require something to help “strain” the wort when lautering. I have used my roller mill for hundreds of beers over the years <— poetic, isn’t it?
But, I have a mill (bought from ebay) that grinds corn quickly and properly. It has corrugated mill plates (like the Corona) mill. But the best part is the motor. No sore arms from spinning a handle for hours.
Here is the Amazon link:
Sure, it’s not “free”. But certainly in the price-point of that roller mill. I highly recommend this solution for corn and any other unmalted cereal grains you might use.

p.s. - from ebay it was less than $200 USD. Definitely an excellent investment for my distilling shed.

I have the Monster Mill II and everything I have read says that the MMIII with three rollers clogs with corn. I am not familiar with your mill but I love mine.

A lot of people seem to be using that mill that you posted up SS.
I've only heard good reports about them.

Musinn (the vendor) is part and parcel to distributing a product through Amazon known to be substandard. The effort to resolve issues with the vender have proven fruitless, and the YouTube link demonstrate the issues inherit to the product. Musinn’s adds result in a ‘bait &switch’ and product support provides an aimless dialogue to discourage the buyer seeking product support.

I've got an agristore grinder for turning whole corn into meal consistency. That works great. I have been considering a roller mill for barley and lautering but have used the agristore up till now for mashing with barley without issue.
Cheers!

I looked up your grinder, it’s a bit more than I wanted to pay, but it looks real nice!jonnys_spirit wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 8:56 am I've got an agristore grinder for turning whole corn into meal consistency. …oh yeah….one more thing. The vibration causes the mill to creep off the buckets. Don’t grab for it as it falls away!

Re: Grain Mills and grinders and?
I have the same grinder. Nice large hopper and contains the dust pretty well. Rips through a sack of whole corn to flour at a pretty quick rate also.jonnys_spirit wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 8:56 am I've got an agristore grinder for turning whole corn into meal consistency.
