Indiana in the house.

Post by Hoosier_Hilljack »

Hello all,

Been a long time lurker here. There seems to be knowledge out the wazoo. I'm sure I will have stupid questions in the future.( I'll try search bar first)
I am currently starting out with a electric 15 gallon keg still. With a 2"column. That necks down to 3/4". I have made a 3-half gal jar thump set, which goes to a 3/4" 38" lebig style condenser. I know I said "Jar"
My goal is to first perfect a fruit brandy. I need some sippin' stuff for those cold ice fishing nights. Or when the wife kicks me out to the barn.

I'm in northern Indiana so there are many cold nights. Thanks in advance for your help and I look forward to this endeavor.

Not sure whether you're using glass for thumpers but glass thumper jars are a very bad and dangerous idea - especially when they're full of high proof ethanol liquid/vapor and they break...

Welcome to HD!

Cheers,

I knew I'd get some response from the JAR comment. I will look into making a copper style thump keg. I don't understand why they sell the jar rigs. Maybe it's time for me to just belly up and buy a copper thumper. I'll have to do some research on size though for a 15 gallon set up.
Thanks for the welcome though. Look forward to continuing this discussion.

You might try working at well-controlled ferments, double-distillations and careful cuts before investing in that copper thumper.

Welcome to the club 🍻.
Those are 2 of my favorite things. Iv done about 100 gallons of Brandy from wine kits. Since iv joined this group. I love me some brandy. And done lots of ice fishing here for rainbow trout ( excellent on the smoker ) and pickerel. Too bad we aren't neighbors.
I also got a few friends come up every year from Indiana to rent my cabins. Great folks
I drink so much now,on the back of my license it's a list of organs I need.

Marketing bling to attract people who know no better is the simple answer.
The people who make those POS dont give a hoot about your safety.

Safety is No 1 on this forum , please don't mention glass thumpers again...we don't wanna know about them.
Youv'e got your response, lets leave it at that.

Welcome to the forum
love fishing for walleye
but on soft water
i don't have the build for the hard water.
my skinny friends would tell me..... "head out there, we will be along in a minute"
I finally figured that I was the "stress test" for the hard water.
I am about 160 miles from you (150 to 175)
