It’s a beautiful day

Post by 3 steps ahead »

Hi everyone! I’ve been following along from a distance and figured it’s time to jump in the rabbit hole. Live in the upper Midwest and am planning on building a 6 gal pot still to make whiskey and rum. Maybe add a thumper down the road. True ly enjoy building and creating. I’d like to start with a 1500 watt, 120 volt heating element as I feel more comfortable with elect instead of an open flame in a basement. Every time I think I’m ready the next 15 minutes of reading convinces me otherwise. I’ve read enough to know I have a lot more reading ahead.

Hello and welcome to HD. Always something new to learn here. That's one of the neatest things about this hobby. The more you learn, the more there is to learn. It never ends. There are so many ways to make likker. Have fun and be safe.
SF
Simple Lil' Pot Still, no temp guage, no carbon, no scrubbers, nuthin' fancy. Sometimes use a thumper, sometimes don't.

Real good info for New Folks:

Welcome, also in my signature page I have a link with suggestions on how to organize the information as there is so much and when you need something it is nice to be able to go directly to the source for the information.

Hi how’s it going? I’m planning on building a small 1.5 gallon thumper out of .032 copper. Any advise on the build like how to bend it. The use of rivets for the seam? Cutting the tabs and bending them to hold the bottom-soldering? ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED!!

You should start closer to the 15 gallon beer keg route.

Cuts will be easier to make, and you will get there anyhow !
