This here is the link for the Thump Tower. This was pre "Flute" also. Old Dog prolly said to himself,,,,"I'm not going to build a contraption like that on my next build I can tell ya right now!".
In those days it never really occurred to me that that tower was a plated column. Didn't even know what a plated column was. I just had thumpers on the brain.
Mikes build and refined fabrication skills was the mark of a paradigm shift for hobby distillers around the world.
Thank you Larry for bringing up that link .
It was your thumpers and humper thumpers that helped me get my head around a lot of stuff when I didn't know crap from clay......the build blew me away. Thanks for sharing " Salute smilie ..if there was one "
I really like the idea of your reflux being caught by the inline thumper rather than falling back to the boiler. I may have to start working on this. How did your fab'd square s.s. bubbler function? was it loud? did it dance around a lot? What thickness did you use?

Rain Distillate
The big square bubble cap functions very well. It is made from 3" square tube. I think the wall thickness is about 3 mm.
On the first half of any typical run it made no noise at all. As the alcohol became more depleted during the second half, of course the boiler temps would naturally increase. This is when the cap would start to sort of rhythmically dance around on the floor of the thumper.
There is a you tube vid out on the web somewhere.

Have to remember there were no "Flutes" at this point in time when this was originally built.
Seems like only yesterday........where the hell does time go?.
My how things have changed.......no buy it on line and clamp it together stills.......or Vevor rubbish back then.
It was pretty much build or go without.

Yeah that video was created because Pint and Harry just about called me a liar. I was trying to be modest / humble at the time of the video. But the reality is that my hoses were collapsed and I simply wasn't getting enough cooling media through my reflux HX. That contraption had no problems running 95.

And you used to walk uphill to school both ways, in the snow, with no shoes……. Feels like that comment should have started with “back in my day”…..
I just read an article about the dangers of drinking that scared the crap out of me.
I have been considering building a vertical thumper section into my whiskey helmet/onion head and was wondering if anyone had run into any issues without implementing a vacuum release valve to prevent crushing the boiler in this kind of setup when shutting down..
