Gorgeous Still
Can anyone explain what is going on here. Would love to know what the vapor path is. Almost looks like a dual still. Does anyone on this site own the still?
Whatever it is I think it is absolutely beautiful and appears to be very pragmatic.

Re: Gorgeous Still
Looks like it's set up to be a convertible still. Can be run as a simple pot, with plates, and/or with what appears to be a gin basket/vapor infusion chamber.
It's a pretty sweet setup!!!
Saved the pic for future build inspiration.

I especially like the “horizontal” boiler as that gives a larger surface (per wash volume) exposed to the heat input… better heat transfer and vapor production.
The large riser off of the vertical portion of the boiler also is great for (slower) velocity vapor flows to “stabilize” before plumbing to the distillation circuit.
It is a great design and well built (lotz of TiG welding). I WANT one!!

My first thought is this is a need way to deal with bottoms on the plates or sevond column, if there is a drain. But physics would dictate a vapour lock on the drain. It look like the first is just a riser in 6". If it is 6" I would put 4 plates in it and top it with the plater's reflux with a vm or lm head an sell the rest.

It sure is a tidy and unique looking build.

I'm aifraid the steam whistle is missing or, at least, I can't find it.
Re: Gorgeous Still
That is certainly a nice-looking little all-in-one configurable solution.
Re: Gorgeous Still
Can someone explain the use of the pipe between the riser and the plated column? At first I though it was if you wanted to use the plate but the plates are on their own opening to the boiler.
Perhaps some sort of a liquid trap at the bottom of the plated column which allows condensate to drain back to the boiler but the vapor comes in via the riser and down the pipe?

Re: Gorgeous Still
If the vapor entry tee on the column also has a drain straw that drops below the liquid level in the kettle then its all good. If not ,then the system is flawed.Setsumi wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 7:46 am My first thought is this is a need way to deal with bottoms on the plates or sevond column, if there is a drain. Its too nice of a build for the dude to have not addressed column bottoms management.
