Trying a new method of removing finished mash from grain.

Post by Newtothis »

Pretty stoked about this. So I’ve got some big sloppy mash I needed to strain and it just was a total disaster using the mop bucket method. So I tried filling a suspended brew bag with soaked grain then putting an empty bucket on top of the grain and filling it with 5 plus gallons of water. So far so good. Just a little time and gravity seemed to do the rest. When it’s done I siphon off the water to a lower bucket, empty the bag and start all over again. I really hated using the mop bucket method as it was messy. Here are a couple of photos of the set up.

That's pretty close to how I have it now:

Literally have something straining in it currrently, which I'll leave overnight. Bag will be emptied tomorrow, washed, then another bucket of fermented grain/stuff put in again.

The is the holey bucket and lid:

similar method for me.
i just put the BIAB in the brewzilla, use about 3 big bulldog clips to keep it in place, chuck everything in apart from bottom trub.
then take the clips off and use a pulley on the BIAB handles to lift it up and let gravity do all the work.
as phil collins said 'no bucket required'

I drain the grain bed dry using a pump and throw out the rest it seems a lot easier to me.
