Parchment Paper

Post by greggn »

A year ago, I half-filled a mason jar with some bourbon to age while covered with parchment paper. I took it out today and it's contaminated with what I have to assume is the silicone from the parchment paper.

The original batch is on the right.

At the time, I was unaware that parchment paper gets its non-stick properties from a surface coating of silicone. I had tried this as an experiment in oxygen transfer during aging. Clearly this is something to avoid.

Well? How does it taste?
Have you tried it as a furniture polish?

I tried to take another photo to show the viscous, sediment-laden, foul nature of the test sample but it revolted me. It got dumped on the weeds.

Do you think the weeds liked it?
