Alcoengine LM type take-off

Post by bunny »

This is a mod to the Alcoengine LM type take off from Kegland.
It could be used in most any type LM head such as any of the Bocas and the like.
The current Alcoengine system is limited by having only two orifice speed rates.
These small carb jets are available in a wide range of sizes from about 0.10mm to 2.0+mm.
After a minute or less of hot distillate passing through a jet the size and flow rate do not vary.
Here are a few pics of my 45*LM with the system installed along with extra explanatory photos:

To change a take off rate simply close the ball valve, unscrew the jet and replace it with the size of you choice.

This is an end cap that I drilled and tapped to fit the jets.

I use the #30 (0.30mm hole) for fores and heads that draws 120ml/h, and the #48 (0.48mm hole) that draws about 510ml/h on my setup.
There are lots to choose from and probably lots more if you know where to look.

Great idea Bunny and good pics
I guess it would work out cheaper than a good needle valve .
How safe is that Brass ? I’d imagine it’s not for Potable water so more than likely not DR brass . I guess that's a risk one might decide on .

Brass is iffy because of surface lead. People say it can be pickled but its not really an approved material for discussion here afaik.

For all I know he's making fuel though so no harm no foul.

At those take off rate on 2" x 60" column, a run using a 7 gal @ 40% would entertain at least 24 hrs of baby sitting, while a proper setup LM will do so in 6 hrs..

Great loss of efficiency, not discounting the issue of happen to change jets.. the style of this LM has potential, but not setup the manner this one is as its an old model that has never became popular..

It took me awhile, but, I finally found stainless steel orifices that are easy to change out.
I've taken the 1/4" fnpt x1/4" tubing stainless fittings and trimmed them to my preferred length.
Then I ran a #21 drill and 10 x 32 tap through the fittings.
The stainless orifices are almost exactly the same size as a K&B glow plug. They fit the same 5/16 nut driver and can be changed in seconds.
Orifice sizes 0.004"(0.10mm) to 0.076"(1.93mm).

I'm using the 0.013" (0.33mm) about 200ml/hr on my head and the 0.018" (0.46mm) about 560ml/hr.
