Thanks for posting that Ben.
That was on my list of things to listen to after Allen mentioned it.

Some French and Hungarian oak to try this time :)

Any recommendations on what to use those for are welcome!

My vote about the Hungarian is apple brandy if you can distill on the fruit. I had the opportunity to visit a friend in Irota years ago and that’s what his family did. I helped make a barrel and they only fired it enough to get the staves to move so there wasn’t a consistent char or toast. My vacation turned into me helping with apple harvest, but I’ve never found brandy that came close to what I drank there.

Sorghum Rum is finally tucked in for bed.
Big one has a medium toast and 50% ABV
Little one has a light toast and 60% ABV

Great idea! I've not (successfully) made apple brandy yet. Apple season here right now too.

Nice looking barrels there too!

I've been snooping around the net and looking at a couple of the Au , FB distillers groups.
From what I'm seeing some of the Badmotivator barrels seem to be turning up on this side of the world.
A rough costing in this thread of what one costs by the time its landed in this country would probably increase sales even further.
Potential for sales on this side of the pond is probably very good, the hobby here seems to be growing rapidly and a proper Coopered Oak Barrel costs an arm and a leg in these parts.

I hear you, Saltbush. But I am very reluctant to engage in commercial talk in this thread, my friend. Our hosts would probably disapprove, and I prefer to keep the focus here on the making of and the use of these barrels. I hope that’s understandable.

Just heard something disturbing from a friend about Ben. I'm not on Facebook or any other platform. Could you folks confirm?

I've been complaining about putting in over 30hrs the last couple days between work to fill a badmo today.
Now I feel honored. Thank you Ben Quady.
My thoughts are with all those close to Ben.

Gutted to hear this news. Deepest condolences to his family.

Was looking forward to getting my first Badmo barrel at some stage. To Ben's credit and legacy, he freely put all the information out there so that others can follow his lead and I am grateful for that. RIP.

Tragic news. My heart goes out to his family.
I just read an article about the dangers of drinking that scared the crap out of me.

That’s it. No more reading!

So sad to hear this.
We have lost a truly great member.
My prayers will include him and his family today.
He shared so much and so freely which really was a testament to his character.
He will be missed.

Greatly saddened to hear of Ben's passing. He helped me out more than once in his own gracious, patient manner.

A great loss for all of us who crossed paths with him.

RIP Ben.

Sucks. I was his first order through the website and we ironed out some shipping quirks of the site. He contacted me personally and gave me a lower shipping price than the website charged me. Sadly, I've yet to use my badmo barrel, but his craftsmanship was excellent.
