Re: If you've ever....you might be a Stiller
Overheard talking about the ingredients for a 10 gal “Crows Rum “ and, with a straight face you reply thats it’s for “the biggest damned cookie you ever saw!” (And the reply was “ummm, sounds yummy.”)
Double, Double, toil and trouble. Fire Burn and pot still bubble.
Re: If you've ever....you might be a Stiller
Well I have found trying to get my shed fire started with wet wood 50ml at a time of my collection of foreshots sure gets the fire going. My first gen of barely and rye was taking ages so just to mix things up threw in a brew tin yeast so the US-05 yeasties could have a feed. Just had to have a dram of the first gen 3 months aging and man does the rye give the dram a nice surprise, first time I've used rye and won't be the last.
Just to keep my beer and gen fermenters going have a heat belt on each to keep em kicking over thru the cold hard winter.

If you ever got separated from your wife/family inside the Tractor Supply store, and they know to find you in the feed/ corn section... You might be a stiller
Re: If you've ever....you might be a Stiller
If you have ever sat on the floor in sadness and horror because you just found your baine Marie barrel had built up pressure and pushed the wood out and almost 2 gallons of HBB is now gone - you might be a sad stiller

If you've ever seen 20 Badmo barrels sell out in under 15 minutes because you were 15 minutes late loging in, you might be a stiller.

I had to observe a moment of silence for ya subbrew, followed by a healthy toast to all the planning, detailed execution and patience you put into producing and filling your badmo. Your story has been archived front and center, making me consider a 'recovery pan' should I put a badmo together in the future. Keep on pluggin' there, sir!

Feel for ya Subbrew , not many things worse than loosing a heap of good booze that you've worked hard and spent a lot of time to make to an accidental F#ck up.

Had your wife ask if there's a larger pot around so she could make a big batch of soup and you present her with a pot large enough to simmer 15 gallons worth with a wiley smirk on your face,

It must have built up considerable pressure as the head is not just pushed a bit that allowed the whiskey to seep out. One side is blown a good inch and a half out from the edge of the can. I think where it was sitting it may have gotten hit by a shaft of sunlight. I will say though, my brewery area really smells nice though. Almost two gallons of HBB makes a great air freshener.

If you ever simultaneously toasted a couple of white oak sticks & heated up a can of beanie wienies on your grill’s side burner while keeping an eye on your drip stream you might be a stiller.

Ha! I can hear a crew member ask you “Uh, Mr Spirit, just what is it you need the 2” or 3” copper for”?jonnys_spirit wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 4:01 pm

Coincidentally, one of my brothers gave me 3’ of 2” and 4’ of 3” when I asked him for leftover copper (from a large veterinarian hospital refit he oversaw) that I used to build my first still and condenser. It’s amazing the stuff we can acquire simply by asking.

Re: If you've ever....you might be a Stiller
Hee hee , I know that feeling of eyeing off copper very well Jonny
So today , I’m down Supermarket scoping out the sugar . Our local has had a shortage for over a week now . Not sure why . Today they had limited 3kg back on the shelves .
Anyway , I realise there is another fella standing next to me . He’s grabbed a bag but awkwardly standing there as am I . I made a passing comment about “looking like a shortage due to all the home distillers “ He blushed and murmured something . I left him too it . Glanced back over my shoulder at the end of the isle and here he is loading up .
But yesterday I thought I had lost my game .
Round at Brother in Laws Garage . It’s a complex with all the garages side by side . It smelt like baking . I asked him had he been cooking in there ? …. As in Baking cookies.
He says no , but smiles and says he saw a garden hose running behind the sheds . He’s a nosey bastard . He’s told me he followed it and it went into the back of one of the sheds where there was another hose dribbling back out onto the lawn .
He’s walked around the front and see’s one of his mates garage , door wide open and theres the still up the back .
I was so gutted I didn’t pick the smell ….. but then I think it was a turbo . Been so long , I’ve forgotten .
And where was O’l mate ? Well not in his shed watching his still

I already have 48” x 3” spools in both copper and stainless. I’ll set up all copper when I work out the ceiling height issue
This size of copper pipe is also good for making diy microphone bodies. Brass works for that too but gee where might one find a long 3” brass pipe!
Happy Wednesday!

These are actually turned brass that I “distressed and clear coated” and built out with vintage guts - tubes, transformer, and capsules - not your run of the mill sm57
