Interesting article on rums evolution
Hope you guys find this as interesting as I did

Definitely tempted to try making some primordial rum... or something close to historically accurate.

Re: Interesting article on rums evolution
Interesting write up for sure.
I'd be interested if anyone can supply a picture of a Creole Column, my search attempts failed to find anything that didn't look a lot like a normal plated column still.
I'm interested to see the difference between the two.

Seems they took a coffey style continuous still and stacked the columns rather then side by side.

Love learning the history of rum, thanks for sharing. Reminds me of a book I bought a few years ago and posted parts of it here every week.

Re: Interesting article on rums evolution
I think the vendome continous columns would be considered a "creole column" based on some past reading. Lots of stripping plates below the beer feed with a short rectification above the feed. Some drawings show doublers some don't. (I could be wrong)Saltbush Bill wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 2:47 am Interesting write up for sure.

What a shame..
Funny when looking for the first pic I came across this old coffey and it's a shame it's not in being used either.
