Whatever this dude is doing seems to work

We don’t condone the use of Continuous Stripping stills as a method of running 24/7 as this is a commercial setup only .
Home distillers should never leave any still run unattended and Continuous strippers should not be operated for longer periods than a Batch stripping session would typically be run to minimise operator fatigue..

Whatever this dude is doing seems to work

Post by Northsouth »

So I came over this on youtube.

If anyone can explain what the different parts do, it would be great, I came up short myself.

Would be great to do a 120 l stripping run pumpe (or by gravity) straight from the fermenter with something like that, and spend the time on the spirit run instead. Only have a 25l boiler, and won't be able to go bigger due to space, no permanente setup, etc.

All makes sense but not sure about the water loop on the steam gen. Is that purely water condensation that recirc through steam gen or is falling reflux going into the steam gen tube?

Calling it a steam generator is probably the wrong term, it's more of a thermosyphon reboiler.

Wash is being dropped in via the column where most of the alcohol is flash evaporated but the spent beer aka "bottoms" is fed into the bottom of the the chamber with the element that is reboiling it causing a syphoning effect. Doing this reboiling gives the bottoms another chance to vaporize more of the alcohol off.

Dude that is a far bigger question than you think.

The jist is that you're feeding beer into the top of the column and steam in the bottom (this can be via direct steam or a reboiler). The beer cascades down plates/packing, interacting with the steam stripping out all the alcohol vapor, the vapor goes up and the spent beer (bottoms) fall out the bottom.

You'd feed your beer through the product/bottom condensers (instead of water) to preheat it so when it drops in the column it's at the same temp (or as close to) as it would be in the column.

I'd start by reading every post on continuous stills here on HD, then SD, and ADI then start scouring YouTube for videos. Then do it again because by the time you get through your first read through your understanding will be so different you'll understand it all in a different way and it'll start to make sense... I've read them all a dozen times and still happen to learn something new every time i re-read them.

On this site is a forum called alcohol as a fuel where I describe mine.

I feed mid column. Nthe bottom ends up at almost pure water. The top ends up at azeo.
Now I know how you claim azeo so easy, it's based on a meat thermometer.
