Stills for sale in Canada

Post by goinbroke2 »

I’ve been seeing these everywhere on marketplace and Kijiji.

I have a cop who moved in 4 houses down (about 1/2 mile) and driving by I see all kinds of stuff being unloaded, including a still and a cooling tower. Haven’t had a chance to talk to him yet but here it’s a non issue. Nobody and I mean NOBODY cares. Half the liquor in the stores are “moonshine” made and sold by local micros. Tell them moonshine is untaxed liquor so you can’t actually sell moonshine legally as that’s part of the definition… blank looks….

Where is anyone enforcing any moonshine laws?? Is it just the US??
Numerous 57L kegs, some propane, one 220v electric with stilldragon controller. Keggle for all-Grain, two pot still tops for whisky, a 3" reflux with deflag for vodka. Coming up, a 4" perf plate column. Life is short, make whisky and drag race!

All our Aussie Home brew shops have stills setup for sale . There’s the obligatory warning sign on the wall stating that it is illegal to distill alcohol in Australia .

One Home brew shop owner I knew said two of his better customers were Coppers .

Recently I had a sparky come and install a 32amp socket . He saw all my gear and didn’t bat an eyelid .

We got talking , he was totally surprised that it was illegal in Aussie . He was so sure it was legal because he knew heaps of fellas that do it .

Having said that , no way I’d go advertising it on Facebook or the likes . Apparently the undesirables steal and use stills for things we don’t approve of .

Huge difference between a legal micro distillery and home distilling in Canada. Not the same thing at all. Micro distillers are licensed and regulated.

Nobody cares until you sell illegal alcohol, cause a medical emergency or have an accident resulting in injury or fire. After that you want to believe that someone will care.

There is a difference between what a cop will get away with and what Joe citizen will get away with.

In Canada case law has set some precedent. But the cases were based upon distillation for personal use only and product was not being sold or distributed.

Fella a few blocks down the street literally blew the roof off his house via a distilling oopsie. No charges were filed and even insurance repaired the house. Literally zero legal consequence in this instance, and luckily no injury either.

Biggest things in Canada are don't make unreasonable quantities and don't sell it. Our police are stretched too thin to chase our likes without really good reason, this from an old friend on our provincial force.

Don't tell, don't sell, and don't make tanker trucks worth...

I'm in moonshine central in Tennessee, there's so many people selling large quantities I don't worry much about my little setup in the basement. I wouldn't consider selling but it would probably be a long time before it caused me any trouble.

Funny part is a TN craft distilling license cost 3000 USD, the fine for distilling without a license is 1000 USD. :wtf:

Unless you're selling and the government is missing out on the taxes, they don't care. Period. Sell beer and they will jump on you the same, it's a tax issue. As far as precidents, I went down that rabbit hole back in 2013 or so and there has never been, to that date, anybody ever charged in Canada with distilling at home/without a license/etc. There was a guy in toronto that was selling crap and got some people sick and the hospital called the cops and buddy was charged, pretty sure I posted about it on here, he was charged with illegal alcohol sales. NOTHING to do with making it, etc.
