Who salts their Lager?

Where I grew up, I never saw anyone salt their lager. Then I moved to Michigan and, at a business lunch, everyone passed the salt shaker around and added a dash of salt in their lager. Later, in Texas, I learned it’s common at bars and restaurants to order a Mexican bottle beer “dressed” with salt on the rim. Is it a regional thing or did I just somehow miss it the first half of my life?
