What is your favorite distillation series in social media ?
From time to time, I really like to watch videos about distillation, this is one my favorite one " Moonshiners" what is your favorite one ?
Re: What is your favorite distillation series in social media ?
I could watch them all if I could. I get to see how much I've picked up here by seeing their mistakes. Alan Bishop seems to make the least for me. You will get torched by shallow Stiller's here for this post I bet. I've learned that you really can't tell a book by its cover. Sometimes you can find the truth in a pool of lies...

Well first I want to say that, the reason that I watch the series, is not becauae they do everything by the book, they do it in a very strange and primitive way, the way they speak to each other really is funny, but if you ask about how they do it, I agree that it is out of this World. I learned almost everything about distilling in this forum, so with that knowledge when you watch a show like that you can see the fun part of it.Tōtōchtin wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 11:03 am I could watch them all if I could. Re: What is your favorite distillation series in social media ?
I watched the first two seasons of Moonshiners after I got into distilling and had already joined HD and read *lots*. But far and away what bugged me about the show was not the obvious bullshit and the lack of understanding (yeast do not mash grains Tickle, and you were only feeding them sugar anyway!), but the format. I can't stand the padding of what is clearly only 20mins of actual footage, to a 1 hour broadcast where every 5 minutes, the Gravelly Voice of Every Horror Film Trailer summarises what I just watched, and gives me a teaser of what I'm about to watch, before showing me the next 5 minutes of idiots doing dumb stuff and pretending their making whisky!
Just watched this: How a Tennessee Moonshine Distillery Started Making Whiskey and it's one of their better videos. The host is generally most interested in proof (in a "The higher the better" sort of a way), but the distillery tour is entertaining and somewhat unusual to not hear BS being spouted by the owners / distillers.
Otherwise I quite like the shenanigans on the Crowded Barrel (Whiskey Tribe) channel, and I'm loving the new format whisky reviews by Dan on the Whiskey Vault channel.

If podcasts count my favorite Distillers Talk
There are two types of people in this world.
1. Those that can extrapolate from incomplete information.

Moonshiners "reality show" is very low on the list for accuracy.
I'd recommend Still it. https://www.youtube.com/@StillIt/videos
Some of his recipes sound kinda ikky
but the distilling info is honest and safe.

Yes I have been watching him since the beginning, as you said his distilling info is honest and safe but some of his recipes that he tries are a bitshadylane wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 7:22 pm Moonshiners "reality show" is very low on the list for accuracy.

I've been following this guy for quite a while. He seems to be a no nonsense distiller and mostly does all grain mashes. His channel is not as polished as others, but you can tell he's just a genuine dude.

I get a good laugh out of Philbilly Moonshine on YouTube. I like his approach - but he’s got a lot more sophisticated lately. Worth a look.

Re: What is your favorite distillation series in social media ?
I watch shows for entertainment and sometimes ides. Like who knew you could flavor with xyz, or wow I bet you really could ferment abc…. I come here and other boards of experience to validate those ideas and / or learn how to do things. So for entertainment:
I watch moonshiners and master distiller. This is less about distilling, and more about just watching silliness. Lately I’ve drifted away as I think both shows have run their course, but they were funny to me for several seasons.
On YouTube, whiskey tribe, whiskey vault, and stillit are my subscribes. The recent split between the Daniel and the tribe hurts as Brenna is just a little too silly and needs Daniel’s straight man routine to offset it, but they are figuring things out. Jessie at stillit at least tries to stay true to what he thinks is right. Can’t say I’ve “learned” anything, but I have used his videos to validate what I was planning to do or round out the edges. The crowded barrel episodes on the tribe are interesting from a distilling perspective.
I will check out the others that people above mention here. I always get a kick out of the backlash against these shows we see on this board, but then I understand that is often from frustration of having to correct the “bad ideas” people get from said shows.

I just read an article about the dangers of drinking that scared the crap out of me.
That’s it. No more reading!

I'd like to hear what people think is worth a listen too.Homebrewer11777 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 9:39 am any good podcasts to recommend? Looking for content I can follow while commuting.
I've tried a few now and they all seem to be just interviews with pro distillers that are basically long adverts.
