Samwell's Modular Bokakob Reflux Still

Post by samwell »

Hello guys,

I've slowly but surely been building and collecting parts for my Bokakob still and have come up with some specific questions I wasn't able to find an answer to.

Here is a photo of my column as it's coming along... I still need to add the plates and add a the 1/4" collection tube and needle valve. I'm just waiting for a stainless steel needle valve in the mail. I intend to pack the three pipes below the sight glass with stainless steel scrubbers.

-> Is the placement of my sight glass correct for detecting flooding? I've seen some people have it at the bottom of their column as well and wanted to confirm.

The rest of my questions pertain to my condenser coil I've built. It is 6" in length and a double helix design. Although I tried to be slow and patient while twisting the 1/4" copper tubing, some areas appear to have kinked. Despite this, a decent flow of water goes through the coil and I can even blow through it quite easily as well... Images of the coil are pictured below.

-> Are the kinks too severe for me to use this condenser effectively? Should I remake another coil?

Here is the most flawed area up close...

For the water in-take and off-take, I wanted to add a compression fitting and barbed hose end which I got from some spare part I had lying around, however the compression fitting doesn't lock tight onto the 1/4" coil condenser tubing. After tighting, I can easily slide the entire fitting off the end, so I know it's not water tight. Below is the image of the components.

-> Does anyone have any suggestions for the 1/4" fitting not fitting onto my 1/4" tubing?

Cheers.

EDIT: The bokakob isn't complete yet, and I still need to add the liquid off-take, needle valve, plates and all that. I'm just at the beginning of my build at the moment.
