Iodine test it's splashing everywhere I think it's done. That's a 16 gallon boiler steam cooking 100 lbs of corn no problem.

Re: Steam mash 100 lbs corn silicone injector
I used about 4 to 5 gallons of water in my boiler to cook the 100 lbs of corn. I added aha 400 ferm solutions enzimes to the water in the blue barrel while I was heating up the water. Yes I just dumped in 100 lbs of corn then mixed it after. The 7/8 steam tip did not get any corn in it during the mash. The 1/2 copper steam feed line never built up more than .5 psi. This process is the easiest most enjoyable way I have found on mash day. Was tired of heating up water and transferring it to the barrel then setting up my steam rig and wait for that to heat up also. 2 hours what a great feeling. Thank you for taking the time to post your experiences I would not be here without all of you.

I used soft water from a water softener system my starting ph was 6.7. My mash after the cook is 5.2 I'll top it with water so my ph will be a bit higher. No ph adjustments either. I filled the water to the bottom line and will fill to the top line ser pics.

Re: Steam mash 100 lbs corn silicone injector
Four to five gallons is good news. I have a 15 and a 7.5 boiler. I've been hoping to use the 15 gallon to run two barrels at the same time. I have a 2" going over to the barrels stepping down to 1" down to the nozzle. Curious why you didn't use your manifold with two nozzles instead of the one.
Have you figured out an easy way to get that grain into your still?

Re: Steam mash 100 lbs corn silicone injector
I've wondered if the localized heat from steam would denature some of the enzymes.
Maybe it would be better to heat the water with steam then stir in the enzymes just before adding the grain. So, the enzymes are exposed to the steam for a shorter time.

I have tested more than one nozzle and found its not needed also it does not perform better than just the one. For the mash I give it a stir so the consistency is soup and bucket it to the still. I used a heat gun and made a funnel out of a hdpe bucket for the still transfer.
Hope this helps

I also wondered about the enzimes but then thought about stirring a pot on the gas stove top with my corn soup. The fire was much hotter than the steam and did not have issues then, so I gave it a go. At our level, the steam is not under pressure and hot as hot. I saw Pinto with a turkey fryer stirring his enzimes also with no issues. I have had great results cooking my corn with steam this way and the efficiency is excellent.

Re: Steam mash 100 lbs corn silicone injector
I'm really liking this process. Thanks for posting. Can you show more pictures of your still head. I would like to build one to fit my 15.5 gallon electric keg still..
Or maybe any links to threads that have already posted a build.

The reason I asked was I only have 1 5500w and was worried that might not have enough flow to work. Seeing you had 11k and one nozzle had me thinking I might be needing more power.Eric wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 11:47 am I have tested more than one nozzle and found its not needed also it does not perform better than just the one. With my back I'm hoping the rye and corn will be able to drain thru 2" valve. If not I'll need to use a pulley system . Has anyone pressurized a fermenter to help push the mash out the drain?

Re: Steam mash 100 lbs corn silicone injector
Not a mash but when gravity draining the last of my cider out of the wooden barrel, I blew into the plug hole at the top to get the flow rate up. I might even think about plumbing up the compressor, or a bike pump, to empty the barrel faster next year.

Update 1.005 sg in 4 days not bad I'll strip it tomorrow. I just wrap the barrel in a blanket and put one of these $13 back heaters under the barrel. It works better than the fish tank heaters and holds the temp at around 80*f. The room temp is in the low 60's. I will update on stripping day.
