First Rum Recipe
Hello fellow distillers, I have made a few all grain whiskeys. My wife is asking me to make a rum now. I was thinking of Pirates Life Banana Rum. 1.5 it's of molasses, 5lbs of brown or raw sugar and 12lbs of bananas. Question I have, has anyone added oats to a rum for the mouth feel/viscosity? TIA

Re: First Rum Recipe
SBB’s all molasses rum recipe from tried and true recipes would be my recommendation.
I have added oats. You will taste oats in your rum. The oats will likely improve the mouth feel but so does time on oak.

Re: First Rum Recipe
Why would you put Bannanas in Rum.
It makes as much sense as putting mangos in your whisky.

Re: First Rum Recipe
I have added oats to a "rum" there was also panela sugar brown sugar and molasses it was good for mojitos I made it a year ago there is a liter on white oak and a liter on cherry wood. It was probably a little bit grassy or grainy for rum. This year's rum is getting panela molasses maybe a little brown sugar and rice (this seems to enhance a vanilla note as well as a thicker mouthfeel) but I am going to open my jars of aged rum before I make a final decision
