Heading to Europe today for the month of April. Will start in Germany then second week head to Austria for 3 days. Travel back to Munich to fly to the Canary Islands for a week of sun and beach. The last week will be wine tasting in Portugal. Will have limited internet but should be able to check from time to time.

Sounds amazing. Some of my favorite places (Munich, Salzburg, Porto or anywhere in the Douro Valley). Not sure if you’ve been, but if you need recommendations pm me. I used to “have to go” to Munich several times a year in a previous job and try to get back every other year now. Never been to the Canary Islands, but it’s on my bucket list. I had to cancel this years fall personal trip to France, Switzerland, and Germany so I’m jealous! Let us know what you think and do and have a great trip.
I just read an article about the dangers of drinking that scared the crap out of me.

That’s it. No more reading!

While in Austria try Strohs rum (carefully). The unique butterscotch flavor is amazing. Wish I could get it here.

Have a fantastic trip Bushman that sounds like a delight!
Hunt down some of the dark beers in Austria if you can too, they are outstanding. It's not all lager there.

First night in Germany we went out with our friends to a local family run winery for wine and appetizers. Fun catching up after a few years apart. The family we are staying with, she is an English Teacher in Germany but back in the early 90’s we brought her to the United States as a nanny for our son who was just starting kindergarten.

God that brings back memories of drunken nights on my adolescents.
Be careful with that 80 ABV rum, it'll end your night fairly quick

My German friends say it is very strong but not known for good quality.

Walking around Salzburg I found two interesting shops. My wife says I am like a magnet drawn to alcoholic establishments.
The first one was a cask store and if you brought your bottle back you could have alcohol from one cask or combine alcohols. Looked like most casks were 50% and they were either filled with whiskey or rum. Below are a few pictures from that store:

The second store had a gin still made in Germany and they made a very good London Dry Gin.
