First Attempt at Pot Still Vodka with Whiskey Feints

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

Couldn't sleep and couldn't stop thinking about the idea of an external reflux system for the pot still. Since this will be my last huzzah for a while, may as well enjoy the ride and go out with a bang. Slapped together a quick proof of concept to see if it was realistic to pull off with supplies I had laying around. Of course that copper mesh ball will be more filled out and pulled up more snugly to the base of the lid and I'd still like to get a wicking material under that copper tube to wick water off the top of the lid since that application really wowed me.

Prototype to come!

Sounds like it would be ideal for your needs
Had some and actually forgot I had used it on the feints and stripped them. Decided I didn't care for the mess and hassle after that and gave it away to someone with an aquarium. But the scraps wash was mostly wheat and fermented off the grain, so flavor was very light and I don't think it'll be an issue getting that out with a couple more strips. It definitely seemed to clean up the feints well though.

Haha, all this reflux talk has really got to you hasn't it Avalir! I know the feeling!

It is great to be able to knock something together with whatever you have to hand or can get hold of easily, so I can identify with this.

I'm sure you'll be posting pics of whatever frankenstein you create, can't wait man!

white dog is excellent for extracts (vanilla) and liquors. Just distill it two or three times with water for a "light" whiskey.

I feel for you having to "pack it up" for the next few years. It's a tough blow that'll really set you back in the hobby. I had to do it a couple times for selling houses. Second time ended up being a 3 year hiatus.

Best advice I can give is to try and keep up on some things on the forum, and take notes with whatever research you do in the meantime.

Sorry for the long delay. Haven't built it yet. Life came up, then I was introduced to a hobby bee keeper, and I'm now on a mead kick because I get a great bulk rate. As soon as mead madness ends, I'm on it.
I have however brainstormed a better way to build it - essentially fabricate a more practical and structurally sound plugin.
Now, I probably could have stripped a couple times and finished the job by now, but I'm holding off for this - I want to have more potential to gauge the effectiveness of all this.
