Northern lights
So last night before going to bed 12;30ish stepped put onto the deck and the Northern Lights were out. Looking straight up from my bottom step was like looking into an eye in the sky. I've never gotten pics like this before. I don't know if smoke from Forrest fires caused the effect but camera picked up more vivid purple hues than I was seeing.
4th pic is twisted 90* to the right. Don't know how to fix it.
What a display.
Cheers

I've heard that pics do not do it justice. I've never seen the northern lights myself, but I can't imagine what it actually looked like. Your photos are amazing.

The night sky can be truly amazing up here.
I remember a cold Jan night in 1982, -46C, at a drilling rig over 100 miles from nearest town or artifical light source, my trusty old Pentax ME Super, tripod, cable release, time exposure set, aperture set, and magnificent aurora. "Gotcha tonight."
Third Pic and the 35mm film breakers in my camera when I go to advance it. "Well shit."
Then last night with my phone I get the best pics I've ever taken of the lights. No filters used.

Amazing.
We had a small window into the Northern lights down this way earlier this year, and my wife found that things which were almost not visible were picked up easily by her camera.

Truely amazing Northwoods . Thanks for sharing .
It is something us in the southern hemisphere can only imagine . I believe we have something similar down here called aurora australis. Never seen it though .
Your a lucky man

Beautiful, I have travelled to Iceland in October to see the Northern lights and everyday was clear but would cloud over at night so not visible. Thanks for sharing.

That is amazing, I had to show my wife. Back in Norway we would get them all the time but this was intense. Rarely see purple hues like that. It’s less frequent here in Ontario though -but, we have seen them here too, but nothing at all like you get up in AB.
You are very lucky, good photos and thanks for sharing.

I scrolled across on Google maps we are on same latitude here as central Norway. It would be a good spot for the lights too.

Re: Northern lights
Bushman we don't usually get nice light shows until Oct.
That would be dissppointing to travel like that and have the weather not cooperate. This was a brilliant unusual event for July. I'm glad I went out for a smoke before going to bed.
