This may be a low and slow build but I got started tonight on my build.
The plan is to build a 3 inch reflux comprising of a 2 piece column 2x 600mm, the coumn will be potscrubber packed for now but i plan to set up some plates in the future. A twin wound copper coiled dephlag will follow. Then a offset 3-2in reducer into a copper u (welded up from 2 scrap 90s) then into a 2in shotgun 450 long
I'll have 2 boilers a 65l stainless milk vat style with 2x 2500w controlled by both pid and pwm so I can set and forget the warm-up then switch to pwm for the actual run. The 2nd is a 30l stovetop that will mostly be used in pot still mode with 1 column sections and no packing or dephlag.
I've welded up the dephlag body and one of the column tubes and welded the 2in stainless sanitary clamp to the copper return and got a sanitary fitting on the stovetop lid.
Each stainless tube was cut, mounted in the lathe and dressed square at both ends then tig welded inside and out. ( I don't have the gear to back purge so that was my solution, it seemed to work but let me know if anyone sees an issue here tge exterior weld is more for appearance than any function).
The copper was my first attempt and came out good enough. Wasn't as hard as I'd expected to weld. (I'm no professional welder of any material but I can get by)
The offset reducer has been lost in the post so that may hold things up. But if it doesn't show I am seriously considering laser cutting the reducer from sheet copper.
