Introduction

Post by luisaugvasconcellos »

Hello all,

I'm joining this forum to gather more information on this hobby.
I've been brewing beers, hidromel and rice wine for a while and want to start the journey of distilling.
I am fortunate enough to have a brewzilla 35 liters that I am planning to buy the alcoengine kit just because I'm not exactly a handyman. I thought of getting a vevor still pot, but paying a bit more for the alcoengine and having a better temp control seems more reasonable.
I'm 37 years old and want to be able to start distilling some whiskey, rum and if I really enjoy the hobby I could consider getting a collum to get into neutral spirits.

I would like to thank you to everyone that contribute to this forum and create this huge knowledge library.

Welcome to the rabbit hole! Your experience as a brewer will really support your transition to distilling.

Since you have the Brewzilla, may I suggest you get something more modular than the alcoengine column? It seems you can get a triclamp-fitted lid pretty cheaply: https://morewinemaking.com/products/tri ... l-35l.html

Tri-clamp fittings make it so much easier to expand, adapt and adjust as you learn -- I never outgrew my original boiler, but my original "all-in-one" column is gathering dust while I play with different triclamp configurations. Just to give you a sense of what I mean, here's a simple triclamp pot column: https://www.ebay.com/itm/325569913984. I cobbled mine together from parts on Amazon...
