Long Time Drinker, First Time Distiller

Post by solarbanjo »

I've been lurking on this site for several years and am finally making the jump.

It didn't hurt when a friend "donated" several cases of his home-made wine - I've got some motivation to hopefully spin that straw into gold(en brandy).

I look forward to LOTS of reading and likely several reminders to read some more.

Thanks in advance to all the great folks supporting this!

Welcome, Solarbanjo. Great name! I hope you have some success with that wine to brandy distillation. A neighbour distilled some pretty rough red wine into an absolutely delicious brandy a couple of years ago, so anything’s possible. Good luck out there.

Welcome to HD solarbanjo ! Bluegrass fan here an I know that banjo doesn't necessarily mean bluegrass but I don't think you can have bluegrass without a banjo..

Cheers,

Hello and welcome!! I made a batch of pear wine, I guess I should say I tried to make a batch of pear wine, it was soooo gross!! I had no idea what I was doing. Luckily I didn't throw it out, it sat there for a bit. I got a still for Christmas and my husband says- why don't you throw that in the still. It wasn't quite as easy as that, but I found this place and they helped me make that gross wine (along with some other things I didn't like) into a really nice...something. Not sure what it would be called, but it was delicious!!

Have fun and enjoy the ride!!

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

jonnys_spirit - Bluegrass fan as well. The banjo is another hobby started decades ago but only now starting to pick up steam.

justinNZ, sadie33 - Your words are comforting. You can probably imagine why someone was willing to donate cases of their homemade wine, so I'm encouraged to hear that gross wine can evolve to something really nice.
