Schisandra berries

Post by Biggerfish »

I was given some schisandra berries and was told they would be great in gin. I searched the site and couldn’t find anyone using them so I thought I would ask. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!.

Have you tasted them?

Do you think they would be a nice addition?

If you have a small still, make an essence with some to add to existing gins.

Try steeping some in a finished gin.

I agree with NZ schisandra berries are not common in the area most of our members live so it doesn't surprise me that you had trouble finding information on the forum.

Schisandra berries have a unique flavor profile that includes bitter, sweet, sour, salty, and hot.
interesting if you use it as a botanical for gin

Welp, since I have them, I’ll do a small batch just using them as the only botanical and see what happens. Thanks to all for your input.

Bought some yesterday. Discovered in a health shop while looking through all the jars of herbs etc.

Intrigued how you get on.

.
Schisandra berrries sound intriguing and appear to be the featured botanical in this London Dry-style gin.

Will have to remember to stop by for a taste at the distillery in Sonoma next time we're there.

Hey,

Found a pod cast about schisandra background, health uses, etc.

Around 35 minutes in she talks about using in tonics and tinctures etc. Mixing with vodka etc.

Was actually more interesting than I was expecting.
