Polyphoenix by kegland
Just wondering about opinions and experience with the new polyphoenix range from kegland. At this stage good bad and ugly, as I'm looking at some small add-ons to what I already have and if it performs adequately then I might give it a try.

I've never seen these parts before. Polyphenylsulfone. I'll have to look more into its chemical resistance data.

one would assume they have done their homework.First_still_25 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 4:22 pm Just wondering about opinions and experience with the new polyphoenix range from kegland. Sir Walter Raleigh believed tobacco cured coughs and was a tonic for bad breath

chemical resistance chart for PPSU.
ethanol - F = Fair (moderate effect: some negative effects, some useful properties retained)
it doesn't rate it's resistance to various % abv of ethanol
https://blog.darwin-microfluidics.com/p ... ity-chart/
other sites rates PPSU resistance to 15% abv ethanol as excellent, 40% & 90% not excellent.

Yeah you're thinking along the lines I am. This is also not to say that they haven't created a new version of ppsu which has greater ethanol resistance at high proof and vapour which changes it again.

The only resistance data I have seen from kegland is that it resists temperatures upto 220 deg C.

Oh look
Acetone =X
Ethyl Acetate = X
So as long as you only have ethanol in your still , you’ll be right yeah ?

They do state in the paragraph before hand that the concentration percentage is at room temperature so the question really is does the reduced concentration of those chemical have a greater effect than the increased temperature that they are passing through the part at.
That is to say that at "room temperature" at a lower concentration it might have a higher resistance.

I get enough of micro plastic in my diet as is.
Don't want to knowingly add more

My stills doesn’t work at room temp .First_still_25 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 11:04 pm That is to say that at "room temperature" at a lower concentration it might have a higher resistance.

My plated still was usually putting out at 92%abv …. Not really a low concentration .
That still looks great , it looks affordable . But no way in hell I’d use it .I love my family too much .
And wheres the Copper?

Then there is the Youtube video titled "I Distilled Rum with a Plastic Still!"
Presented by someone with the ID of "All the Gear. No Idea..." as some sort of promotional video.

Safety first and foremost! These forums take a very strong negative view on the use of plastics and synthetics in distilling. It simply is not safe to use these during any part of the distillation process with the exception of HPDE buckets which are acceptable for fermentation. There simply are too many types of plastics and a lack of reliable information for us to reliably advocate their use anywhere in the distillation apparatus. Also, from past posting history, this topic seems to quickly boil down into an almost religious flame war. Thus we simply will not put up with it, and posts about any form of plastic use will be edited, deleted or locked. #
