Pre-make a Dunder like wash?

First, thanks for all the amazing information that is posted within these forums.
I am still reading and will continue well into this journey.

While I admit, my "search-fu" is week Grasshopper, I have looked and as of yet, not found what I am looking for.

I am in the process of researching and developing my method for making a Rum, so far both SBB and Buccaneer Bob and most all Rum process I have come across advocate for using Dunder. I also know that like running a UJSSM, the first generation can be accomplished without the backset, and that many of the recipes say that the 1st gen of Rum is fine without as well.

Seeing that the Dunder is just a spent Rum wash, left to "age" I think a small batch should be able to prefabricated.
In my mind it is as simple as making 1 or 2 gallons of molasses wash, fermenting it out, boil the "heck" out of it after fermentation, then let it sit for a week or so prior to starting your first run.

May not be a 100% solution, but in my simple head, seems like a step in the right direction.

ALL input is welcomed and wanted.

I am going to run some Rum this season, I hope to have my double thumper set up soon.
Then I will have a whole other set of questions.

Why waste a perfectly good wash? Set it, run it through the still and collect your rum. There will be lots left in the still to start your dunder for next round. I found that dundrr came into it's own around gen 5.

Thanks for the insight, was just thinking out loud on a way to close the gap a bit.
I have a tendency to not leave well-enough alone and over complicate things

Make a small rum wash that is about 20% the size of your bigger batch and do a stripping run on it. Keep the leftover wash to use as dunder for your next big batch and use the low wines to mix with the low wines from your bigger batch before doing a spirit run on all of it.

Dunder is just one of the ingredients for making muck. It is muck that is aged/cultured. Also look up trash cistern, which is used to make the acids to react with the muck to create the esters that you seem to be wanting.

NZ Chris, looked up muck pit as you suggested. What a cocktail mix to make rum like that. Me thinks that here in the sub arctic I wouldn't stand a hope in hell of coming close to anything like that.

Don't consider it over-complicating things because there are lessons to be learned by conducting even the most 'mundane' of exercises.
When first starting out in this hobby I did the same thing making a sour corn starter for my first-ever generation of UJSSM. The instructions were right on and I learned that soured corn that smells like crap quickly cleans itself up and provided the 'souring' pH change as promised.

Every rabbit hole you poke your nose into will make you a more informed distiller than those who don't. And over the years these 'little' tests and experiments tend to add up, even the planned mistakes that others find difficult to repeat when they turn into something beneficial and worthy of sharing.
