Filter issue
Ran a sugar wash this morning (one of 2) and decided I wanted to filter, never have before but wanted to see what the difference would be, followed G ****** preference on his one video of using a zero water brand filter, brand new never used with water. Well I poured 800ml through... I lost 9% ABV and it came out with a yellow tint??? Like a significantly yellow tint.... thought maybe somehow this was a fluke, maybe because it was a brand new filter, so I took another 800 ml jar and tried again and got the same exact result. Loss of 9% ABV and heavy yellow tint... fortunately for me I have another sugar wash ready to distill and I'll just treat everything from this as a stripping run, but what gives?? Why did this happen so I can avoid in the future. Obviously if I'm going to filter I'm not using that strategy again
Re: Filter issue
Do not use a made for water filter. This is why George is banned here. His info is mostly wrong.

Re: Filter issue
Ethanol is a pretty good solvent and will dissolve plastic water filters resulting in contaminated product.
Develope and stick to good fermenting and distilling protocols and you won't ever need a filter.

Re: Filter issue
Agree with all above . About filtering .if you are going to do it you should use activated carbon .
Dilute to 50% abv first as it is apparently most effective then .
I agree with D4D that the high abv ethanol would have been dissolving some plastic in the filter .I would not use that type of filter . You are better to get a SS , copper or glass container , fill it with carbon and put a small tap on the bottom to let the alcohol slowly drip through .
