New Pot Still I am Going to Put Together >

Post by Turbo6ta »

I am am very new to home distilling and know nothing about stills, so I ordered a cheap 3-gal Vevor pot still that I have not even unboxed yet. This was ordered prior to me being a member of the Home Distiller Forum. After reading how poorly designed the Vevor is here on the forum, I am sending it back to the vendor.

My latest plan is to put together various parts mostly purchased from Lion Brewing Solutions (an ebay vendor). I have not found a cheap 5-gal boiler pot anywhere that I can adapt other parts to, so I am going to purchase another cheap Vevor still in the 5-gal size for $67 and just use the 5-gal pot from that still. I will need to drill a 2" hole in the center of the Vevor lid in order to mount the 2" weldless tri-clamp fitting and then the distilling column.

I plan on adding a 2" slight glass and useing a 2" Liebig style condenser ... The condenser is fairly short at only 8" long, but it has 4 condenser tubes in it that are each 1/2" wide ... So that gives the 1/2" wide tubes a total length of 32" ... I think that should be enough for a fairly small 5-gal pot distiller.

Total price for this setup will be about $248 ... I could spend more for a different setup, but this should do ok for me right now (I hope).

Like I said, I am very very new to all this ... I am open to any comments, positive or negative.
