Non polished Stainless Tube

Post by dave022 »

G'Day,

I have a length of 2" SS tube which has not been polished on the inside. I was considering using it to build an inline activated carbon filter for neutral spirits; would this be okay?

maybe you could describe your equipment ( or photo ) and methods which are producing neutral that you feel the need to filter.
if the guys here can help you in that respect first, then maybe it will save you an unnecessary step and improve your flavoured & neutral product overall.

Most stainless pipe isn't polished on the inside. But you shouldn't need a filter for neutrals.

Is it 304 or 316 ?

These are really the only two SS types you should be considering using .

If yes , then if it’s polished or not shouldn’t matter so long as it’s not corroded .

As far as filtering goes , Activated carbon filtering can make a huge difference to Pot stilled attempts .

Sure , if you have a pot still and do a stripping run and then run that through a reflux still , yes , you won’t need to do any further Carbon filtering .

But if your only still is a Potty , then you can’t beat Activated Carbon Filtering to clean it up after the Spirit run and hard cuts .
