Howdy from Texas
Total noob here with 2 runs 35 years ago on old aluminum pressure cooker, needless to say horrible, but over last 2 years have been researching various aspects of the craft. New 8 gallon + 3 gallon thumper stainless setup, cleaned, vinegar and sacrificial run completed. Ready?? to attempt Orange brandy?? Probably not but trying anyway.

Give it a try. Even if you can't drink it it'll give you knowledge and experience.
If it's got hide or hair, I can ride it.
Wheels or tracks, I can drive it.
Rotor or fixed wings, I can fly it.
And if it's grain or fruit, i can make a drop outta it!

Welcome. If the oranges are free, give it a shot. If not a simple sugar wash or corn mash will be cheaper to learn on. I started with UJSSM and it turned out OK after some time on Oak. The tried and true recipes are a good starting point because if you have questions someone here has done it, messed it up and can help

Welcome to HD! I agree with Subbrew, I started off after a bunch of reading with Shady's Sugar Shine for my first few batches, for me it was a great learning tool, having never done this before. My other recommendation, as a fellow noobie, is read. There is SO MUCH information here, soak all of it up you can, it will flatten your learning curve.

Welcome, neighbor
Maybe give UJSSM a shot before getting too complicated. A simple recipe with guaranteed results that you’ll like.
Good luck

Hello and welcome!! If you do give that orange brandy a shot and you don't like it, don't throw it out. You can throw it in with another run sometime. I did a sweet feed whiskey before I found this site and it had pellets in it (goat food basically). Needless to say it was not good. I watered it down and threw it in with some low wines of another run and it turned out great.

This is exactly my plan. I'm starting another Orange must (a few tweeks ie NO sugar) and will through this in with it.sadie33 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 5:24 pm Hello and welcome!! I was under the misconception using a thumper could make this a 1 and done. So I ran as a spirit run instead of stripping run. 1st lesson: need 3:1 mash. 2nd collect it all for spirit run(make cuts on spirit). 3rd hopefully: patience is key (air it out before starting cuts). We shall see if I've been a good student or not. Lol

Re: Howdy from Texas
I didn't complete the thread but my process was: air out 48hrs with coffee filters covering, use 10ml syringe for 3ml jar 13/25 (110 proof) used calculator to find h2o amount for (80,70,60) proof in Glencarin style glass, after smell/taste by myself and wife, added 0.2ml honey less offensive but not by much. Tried again myself 3 days later and combined it all to throw in the next batch which will be the same without the 12 pounds of inverted sugar.
