Hello everyone,
I’m an indie game developer currently building a FREE realistic survival RPG where the player inherits an abandoned off-grid homestead with deep family roots in moonshining. The game blends open-world survival, homestead rebuilding, and alcohol production, giving players the choice to go the legal route… or work under the table in true backwoods fashion.
I’m reaching out because I want the game’s brewing, fermentation, and distillation systems to feel authentic, not like arcade gimmicks. The ultimate goal is a simulator-style experience that respects the craft and lets players experiment with different gear (pot stills, thumpers, worm tubs, etc.), ingredients, temperatures, and risks — all within a survival-based off-grid life.
I’m currently working on a small playable demo so players can test basic mechanics, but I’d love to make sure it reflects real-life distilling as closely as possible.
So I’d really appreciate input from anyone with experience in:
- Moonshining (modern or traditional methods)
- Brewing/distilling processes
- DIY or rural setups (especially off-grid)
- Common mistakes, myths, or tips that new distillers might run into
Also! If you have any personal stories, family traditions, or off-grid know-how you’d be willing to share, I’d love to hear them. Capturing the culture behind distilling and brewing is just as important as getting the technical details right.
Any insight, big or small, would truly mean a lot to me. I’m happy to share development progress as things evolve and credit anyone who contributes in a meaningful way if they request that I do so.
Thank you all in advance, especially the amazing staff allowing me to post here!
