Hello from the upper midwest.

Post by Starhopper »

Hello everyone, just wanted to drop a line and introduce myself.

I have been lurking on this site off and on for years and decided to finally register.

Many, many years ago my grandfather passed away and we were up cleaning out all the barns that were on the property. I remember going into the syrup shed where he made maple syrup in the spring and finding a bunch of old copper pots and tubing. My dad and his friends grabbed it all up and it was never seen again. Fast forward many years and now my father has passed away. After going through some really old boxes, my brother came across some old notes with different amounts of rye, wheat, etc (I have not read the notes yet, waiting for my brother to scan and email them to me) I can only speculate the notes are my grandpa's old whiskey and beer recipes. He said a lot of the notes are hard to read and some are written in Finnish, so who knows what will come of those. But I'm hoping to try and see what I can do. I bought a column still around 16-18 years ago and have made multiple UJSSMM runs with it, so I have decent knowledge about running my equipment. I have never tried and all grain recipe and I'm sure I will have a lot of questions when I try for the first time.

Thank you to everyone that keeps this forum going and answering questions that you probably have answered a million times.
