1st Still preparation

Post by Christhebrewer »

Hi all,
After much reading on this forum i decided to buy a modular setup and modify it a bit. ill be mainly making Gin's.
This is what I have planned as a reflux Still. On the boiler it stands 205 cm high. The boiler can control both Power and Temp. I also have the water cooling running from a pond pump in a reservoir with separate control valves for each condenser.

To run as a pot still i was going to remove all the packing and not run the relux condenser, would i need to shorten it ? (remove one of the empty packed sections).

I currently have it sitting in a citric acid bath overnight, where I will then give it a good scrub clean, rinse and prepare it for a 50/50 Vinegar/water run.
Then I was going to do a sacrificial alcohol still run (using a turbo sugar wash) – i know its not the best but as I have a packet i though ill use it on the sacrificial run.
Does this prep sound right? How long can i leave the still before i do my first real Distil? is a few weeks ok?

Chris
