Hey from the upper midwest...interested in malted barley runs atm.

Post by silfrsmithr »

Hello folks. I'm a silversmith by trade and I made a 5 gal. stainless milk can with a copper 4' column which I built into a sort of dual purpose unit depending on how you run the water for the condenser. Silver brazed everything, including a solid copper shotgun condenser. Electric heat built into the bottom of my pot with a control box with P.I.D. I built and wired myself. Armed with hydrometer as well as proof and trail. I bent up the coil on an air conditioner and use it to cool 5 gallons of water through a small pump in a closed circuit for my condenser. All in all, it seems so far to be a good system, and i'v e gotten a few batches of really nice sugar wash out of it, though I've only used it in pot still mode so far.

I was given 750 pounds of really good professionally malted barley, and am working on malted barley only runs so i'm not buying in anything but maybe yeast, but am struggling with it at the ferment stage, and I'm hoping to get a few questions answered that I haven't been able to find anywhere so far.

It sure would be nice to be able to run off all that malt quietly back in the hills with no need to "run to town" for any materials.

Thanks for having me, I look forward to interacting with y'all.
